The Lesson of the Weeds

Updated: May 2, 2023

This picture isn’t very attractive at all. It is our driveway before we uprooted annoying weeds while sweating in hot and humid weather. While doing the pulling I realized that not all weeds are easy to get rid of. I pulled, pulled, and pulled. It had to be done unless I wanted our driveway to be completely ruined. The hard work was worthwhile.

It came to mind the issues of our own lives. Though following Jesus, how easily we can still allow weeds to grow within our hearts. Without Jesus, our heart is hardened by sin and unbelief. For we who walk with Jesus, it is still easy for our hearts to become hard because of sin (unforgiveness, hurts, disobedience, compromise, etc.). Just like one small weed can break through through the gaps in a hard concrete driveway, those weeds that enter our hearts can cause much damage.

Do you have a gap of unbelief? Do you have a situation you feel you can never get over? Be careful. It can ruin your walk with Jesus, even destroy the path He has for you. But God is with you and will never leave nor forsake you. You don’t have to do it alone. “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your household. If you are a believer, trust Christ with everything. He is supreme and sufficient. “Oh, that my people would listen to Me, that Israel would walk in My ways! I would soon subdue their enemies, and My hand against their adversaries” (Psalms 81:13-14).
